While at the HP Discover EMEA 2012 conference in Frankfurt, Germany, I met up with a fellow blogger and sharp fellow Hans De Leenheer at the Veeam booth for a discussion on the product and futures. It turns out that Hans did indeed have a surprise up his sleeve and went off to grab his green themed iPad to go over the announcement that landed late last week.
Reviewing the announcement with Hans De Leenheer
Now that the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 storage arrays are out, Veeam released details that they will be able to recover virtual machines (VMs) or data directly from HP StoreVirtual Storage snapshots within the Veeam Backup & Replication application. Neat!
I’ve not actually used the Veeam Explorer tech yet (as I don’t have the right equipment in my lab). However, the announcement claims other capabilities that seem rather handy:
- Fully automated process mounts the selected SAN snapshot and protects integrity of production LUNs.
- Recover single files from SAN snapshots in a few minutes.
- Restore VMs without staging or intermediate steps.
- Recover an entire VM in two minutes or less.
- One integrated recovery environment for every recovery scenario.
- Easy-to-use wizards for recovery of VMs, files and application items.
- No agents to deploy on hosts or VMs.
- Included in all editions of Veeam Backup & Replication 6.5, as well as Veeam Backup Free Edition.
The buzz was pretty strong around their booth, as I caught a candid shot of the area while I was there. I think everyone also enjoys their 8 GB thumb drives as opposed to those cheap 1 GB ones you get at most other booths. 🙂
